While all the drama is intriguing, most coaches would prefer to be in the position of teams like FC Greater Boston Bolts U15 Boys, who have already qualified in the North Division with 16 points on seven matches.
Bolts are coached by former Nigerian International and MLS player Francis Okaroh. Okaroh’s assistant Greg Howard said the team success is built on defense and ball movement.
“We like to move the ball a lot,” Howard said. We’re not big on having people dribble all over the field. We want one or two touches and then it’s gone, hopefully to someone in a better position.”
The defensive emphasis is testified to by the team yielding just two goals in seven matches.
Everybody is a defender as far as Francis is concerned,” Howard said. “He is very determined about the team not giving up goals.”
Okaroh took the team over three years ago when it was in the lowest division of its area league. While the team roster has changed a good deal since then, the fact remains that his tutelage has resulted in the team climbing the ladder to the top of one of the country’s very best leagues.
The stingy defense is led by Region I goalkeeper Jan Trnka-Amrheim who can be a walking, leaping highlight reel between the sticks. Forwards Sheanon Williams and Michael Bustamante lead the attack, with Theo Terris a top-quality midfielder on the team.
Howard noted that along with Okarho, the team has benefited from former England International and current New England Revolution assistant Paul Mariner's involvement, when Mariner was technical director for the Bolts club.
