  • U15 Boys Championship Match: FC Greater Boston Bolts 1, Potomac Cougars 0

Sheanon Williams fired home the winner on a Chris Gilbert assist to give Francis Okaroh’s team a league title. Mike Burke and Aaron Maund were among the other standouts for Bolts.   Williams said the team having a number of offensive weapons is a key to success, and noted that Okaroh’s leadership has been another vital element.     “We try to pass it around and give everybody a chance so they can’t focus on one player,” Williams said. “Francis has been such a great coach. He makes sure we don’t get too cocky. He keeps us humble and he’s always there for us.”

  • FC Greater Boston Bolts 1, Montgomery SC Dragons 0

A very cagey affair didn’t lead to an abundance of scoring chances, but as the Boston side slowly took control of the game, it seemed a goal might be coming.

It is not likely many envisioned the way it happened however, as Mike Perkins scored with a 30-yard long service that somehow crept in under the bar.

Montgomery’s Mike Alfrondra had hit the post with a first half shot as the Maryland side got off to a brighter beginning. Rose Enzuko was playing a very good match in the back for Montgomery, while Eric Gonzalez always posed a scoring threat.

For Boston, forward Michael Burke, Sheanon Williams and Miguel Bustamante brought a lot of pace and skill to the table, keeping the Montgomery defense on its toes and helping the squad regain control of the match. Boston coach Francis Okafor

“Normally we are quick starters but today they decided to feel them out first,” he said. “Once we settled down we started dictating. We’re disappointed we didn’t score more, but that’s why you play the game.”
